The Ubuntu computer should have some prerequisite programs installed. The programs necessary to transmit are: Hamlib, Direwolf, and GPredict. The Direwolf configuration file must be properly configured before any transmission may be done. Hamlib must also be installed and connected properly with the ground station’s external hardware. GPredict must also be configured to detect the external hardware and track the satellite’s location. Assuming all of the previous items have been properly configured, the following procedure outlines how to go about transmitting signal.
The ground station uses a high-end amateur radio, the ICOM IC-9700, to transmit radio frequencies. This radio must be plugged into the Linux-based Ubuntu computer via USB. First, make sure the ICOM’s frequency modulation is set to FM. Then rotate the dial to set its transmitting frequency to whichever is desired.
